American University/NTL Masters Degree
in Organization Development

The American University/NTL Master of Science Degree Program in Organization Development enables students to master the concepts of organizational development while simultaneously building their capacity to improve the effectiveness of organizations.  Since 1981, this program has given graduates the solid theoretical and experiential foundation for entering and developing in the field of Organizational Development in the private, public and not-for-profit sectors.

The AU/NTL partnership integrates AU's scholarly university-based education and NTL's pioneering tradition of experiential learning processes.  It is designed for individuals with significant organizational experience who are interested in careers in organization consulting and training.

The program includes both class work and intensive experiential learning, consisting of an orientation session, 13 graduate courses (39 credits), and a 6-day experiential learning session.  Courses focus on building basic competencies in theory, intervention and behavioral skills, and self-knowledge.  The program is geared to working mid-career professionals by being scheduled one weekend per month.

The program sequence takes approximately 25-27 months.  The program is administered by the American University School of Public Affairs, one of the oldest and most respected of its kind.  Admission to the program follows the process required by AU for other graduate programs.

In addition to an NTL Human Interaction Lab, the program consists of 13 courses and 39 credits. Courses include:
